The existing ground floor layout featured a beautiful kitchen beside the downstairs primary bedroom. This worked for the previous owners, but limited my clients and made their busy household that loves to gather and entertain feel clunky. The home needed flow, light, and a better connection between spaces. That's why they came to me.

After working with this family over the past few years on other rooms, from their calming main bathroom to a cosy guest suite, I knew exactly how they lived and what mattered most to them. This time, we focused on the heart of the home, creating an open plan living and dining area that would finally bring everyone together comfortably.

My Approach:

We removed the dividing wall between the original kitchen and the downstairs bedroom to open up the floor plan completely. This move instantly transformed how the home felt and brought light into what once was a dim corner of the home. Natural light now travels through the space, and the kitchen seamlessly connects with a relaxed living area designed for both quiet mornings and lively family evenings.

Material choices were kept timeless and tactile: soft neutral tones, layered textures, and subtle nods to sentimental artwork that the family wanted to keep. The result is a space that feels fresh and contemporary but still feels very much designed for it's owners.

The Result:

The once disconnected downstairs of this home now works as one open (yet incredibly cosy) hub. It's the kind of space that makes everyday living easier and makes family time feel effortless. This design is proof that you don’t need to build new to live better, sometimes it’s about rethinking what’s already there.
